The Glenn Teaching and Learning Center has a brand-new look thanks to the generosity of the William H. and Mattie Wattis Foundation. We have reinvented our third classroom into a more comfortable space for our psychologist, tutors, small-group classes, conferences and advisory periods.
In an effort to move toward Darlington’s new schedule, the Upper School Teaching and Learning Center took a group of teachers to visit two North Carolina schools that are currently working with longer class blocks. The trip infused staff with a feeling of new potential that only comes from observations of other colleagues practicing their craft in a supportive and positive environment.
Earlier this month, the attack on the Parisian newspaper Charlie Hebdo rocked the European continent. As news of the tragedy unfolded in newspapers across the globe, the issue hit even closer to home for one of our boarding students. With the partnership of the Teaching & Learning Center, we contacted the student's parents about Skyping with my U.S. History classes and her father graciously agreed.
Lisa Goldin, Darlington’s director of the Glenn Teaching and Learning Center, has been invited to preside over three sessions at the Learning & the Brain Conference in Boston, Nov. 20-22, 2014.
Students should begin now planning for semester's end. Getting a monthly calendar, be it electronic or old-school paper, is important for time management and getting a clear picture of the long-term view. Posting study times on their calendars can be very helpful in preparing for this important and demanding time of year.
