The Glenn Teaching and Learning Center has a brand-new look thanks to the generosity of the William H. and Mattie Wattis Foundation.
We have reinvented our third classroom into a more comfortable space for our psychologist, tutors, small-group classes, conferences and advisory periods. We have created a learning library for professional development in this new conference room, allowing staff to access resources as needed and work in a creative space.
The Teaching and Learning Center has new comfortable chairs and desks, creating a more relaxed atmosphere for students and, at the same time, a more focused learning environment that encourages increased brain engagement. Our new standing desks have allowed students to swing their feet and study at the same time, thus reducing stress and anxiety. As you look around the center, you will notice a new tweed couch and new collaborative desk with rocking chairs at each desk for students. All of this has created an atmosphere that students enjoy while helping to reduce the stress they experience while they study.
Additionally, the grant from the William H. and Mattie Wattis Foundation has provided professional development growth for a group of teachers and made it possible to host monthly senior student luncheons to discuss senior student issues as well as the transition to college. As a result, the Glenn Teaching and Learning Center has grown in terms of both the environment and the educational and professional opportunities we are able to provide for our students and our teachers.
We encourage members of our school community to utilize these resources and determine if they would be effective in their classroom. We hope that brain-based classrooms will be utilized throughout campus to enhance learning.
