Day #StudentSpotlight: Savvy Palmer

Tannika King | March 19, 2026 | 248 views

A Darlington student is made up of many things. None of which is average. We help our students develop their interests, passions and pursuits, because we believe every individual has something to contribute. We also believe that only when you're 100% you, are you 100% Darlington.

Here at Darlington, every student’s path is different. We think that's a good thing.

Let’s get to know Savvy Palmer, a five-year day student from Calhoun, Ga., who has served as a leader in Cooper House since the end of her freshman year.

When you think of Darlington, what three words come to mind first?
Friends, community, memorable

What song reminds you of high school?
"Springsteen” by Eric Church

What's your favorite show to binge watch?
“Love Island,” “Suits” and “Bridgerton”

What's your favorite restaurant in Rome?
Doug’s Deli for sure

What house are you a member of?
Cooper House

What are you involved in?
Head prefect of Cooper House (where I  have been a leader since the end of my freshman year), Advancement Ambassador, distance for track, LLS, NHS, and Spanish Club

If you play sports, who is your favorite coach and why?
My favorite coaches are definitely Coach Perkins and Coach Hunt - they always push me to be the best version of myself and love what they do. A good coach who is passionate about what they are involved in really translates the love of the sport to their players. I have definitely grown and improved lots because of them and their coaching.

What's your favorite place on campus and why?
Probably my best friends’ dorm rooms in Thornwood House. I love spending time with them there and also having sleepovers in the dorm. My other favorite place is the Huffman Athletic Center or the football field. I love not only competing in events at these places but also attending sports events there.

Who's your favorite teacher and why?
Ms. Haynes, Mr. Hudson and Ms. Shores - obviously I love all of the teachers I've had, but these teachers specifically I loved getting to grow a personal connection with. School is so much better when you have a teacher who makes the subject so engaging and fun when they are also equally as passionate about the subjects they are teaching.

What’s your favorite thing about Darlington?
The friendships and memories I've made throughout my time here.

Describe an experience that you've had at Darlington that you couldn't have had anywhere else.
Going to a boarding school, you get the experience of being surrounded by so many different people from all over the world. And not only that, but also there is the opportunity as a day student to run as a leader and become even more involved in the dorm culture. I’ve done this since my freshman year and wouldn't change it for the world. It definitely has prepared me for what college will be like. Also, RUMPUS is an event that no other school could understand, and definitely has to be one of my favorite events of the year.

What are some of the ways you've grown since you first came to Darlington?
I have grown to be involved in as much as I can throughout the school despite maybe being afraid at first to try something new, and I have also learned to be more independent.

What is your dream job?
I would like to be involved in some kind of law when I'm older, most likely some kind of corporate law.

If you have already committed to a college, please let us know which one you will be attending.
I will be attending Rhodes College in the fall, and I am committed to play college soccer there. Club soccer has always been a very big part of my life growing up. I can't even remember a time where I haven't played, and I couldn't even imagine not continuing to play throughout college. I love it so much and I am very excited for this opportunity!
