Part of my Senior Ventures project is cooking with residents at the Ruth & Naomi House in Rome, Ga. The purpose of my project is to teach the residents how to prepare easy and cost-effective meals. I will be providing a cookbook that will include some of my favorite recipes, instructions from the dishes we have made together at the Ruth and Naomi House, and suggested recipes from Darlington faculty. I have been going to the house during the week around 3:30 p.m. so we could prepare afternoon snacks together, but several of the residents are still working or are tired after a long day. I decided to go on a weekend and focus on cooking a meal. We made taco soup and lemon pie, and I have included pictures of both recipes in this gallery. One of the younger residents assisted me with the pies! I was also able to purchase and donate a variety of items for their kitchen thanks to the generosity of students and faculty during the Thatcher Hall Valentine's Bake Sale.
