Valentine’s Bake Sale for the Ruth & Naomi House

Fifth-graders Avagail Barksdale and Tessa Chapman partnered with senior Tanya Maples and the Senior Ventures class to bring a Valentine's bake sale to Thatcher Hall. All proceeds will go to the Ruth & Naomi House shelter for women and children. Valentine's Day-themed bags filled with cookies, as well as large cocoa bombs made by the Senior Ventures class, were available. Avagail and Tessa created a bakery for their technology competition project. Tanya works with the Ruth & Naomi House as a part of her Senior Ventures project. Avagail and Tessa's Bakery has the motto: "Everyone deserves a little sweetness!" We saw this come to life at the bake sale as our faculty and students helped them raise over $200!

The Senior Ventures leadership program is a year-long senior project built on a framework of leadership, innovation, and community engagement. The topic and the project design are chosen by an individual student or a pair of students, and the journey is guided by Darlington faculty as well as mentors in the community. Most projects fall into one of the following categories: Investigation, Performance, Entrepreneurship, and Outreach. Candidates are selected according to proposal quality, feasibility, and commitment.
