In this #SeniorSpotlight, get to know Maria Millan de la Torre, a one-year boarding student from Cantabria, Spain, who is studying abroad for one year before she returns to her home country for college.
When you think of Darlington, what three words come to mind first?
Community, service, friendship
What's your favorite show to binge watch?
“Money Heist”
What house are you a member of?
Thornwood House
What are you involved in at Darlington?
I've been part of the cross country team, the swim team and the soccer team.
If you play sports, who is your favorite coach and why?
My favorite coach is Coach Shorey. I love the way he trains us and, above all, that he will always be there whenever you need him and can help you and listen to you. He is also really supportive and friendly.
What's your favorite place on campus and why?
My favorite place is my house, Thornwood, because I love all the girls there and the community that we've created. I also really like the lake. That’s a place where I spend time with my friends.
Who's your favorite teacher and why?
Ms. Hadaway because she explains really well and she knows what she is talking about. I also like Mrs. King.
What's your favorite thing about Darlington?
The people and the connections you create with people from different parts of the world.
Describe an experience that you've had at Darlington that you couldn't have had anywhere else.
I think being able to study in an American high school is a thing that I could never have anywhere else in Spain, and the fact that it is Darlington makes my experience more special.
What are some of the ways you've grown since you first came to Darlington?
I think that coming here and meeting so many people from all around the world has helped me grow mentally as a person.
Where do you want to go to college and what is your dream job?
I want to go to college in Spain and I still don't know what I want to study, but I will probably select something related to health or education.
