Day #SeniorSpotlight: Elsa Quay Corbin

Tannika King | February 27, 2022 | 1111 views

A Darlington student is made up of many things. None of which is average. We help our students develop their interests, passions and pursuits, because we believe every individual has something to contribute. We also believe that only when you're 100% you, are you 100% Darlington.

Here at Darlington, every student’s path is different. We think that's a good thing.

In this #SeniorSpotlight, get to know Elsa Quay Corbin, a four-year day student from Rome who has her own business, Art by EQ.

When you think of Darlington, what three words come to mind first?
Community, diverse and caring

What house are you a member of?
Thornwood House

What are you involved in at Darlington?
The lacrosse and volleyball teams, Tiger Experts, FCA, Advancement Ambassadors, Young Life, and Senior Ventures

If you play sports, who is your favorite coach and why?
Coach Clark! He always encouraged us at practice, asked about our days, and genuinely cares about us.

If you are involved in fine arts, what is your favorite activity and why?
Art! I love being able to challenge myself and share my art with others through art classes and Senior Ventures.

What's your favorite place on campus and why?
Silver Lake on a pretty day! It always reminds me how thankful I am for Darlington and our beautiful campus.

Who's your favorite teacher and why?
Picking a favorite teacher is so hard. I love Mrs. Kinney, Mr. Hudson and Ms. Sikes. My advisors were always so amazing, too! Mrs. Inman is my senior advisor and before that my advisor was Coach Leezer. Mr. Evans and Mr. Woods have never been my teachers either but they are both amazing figures in the community and will help out with anything anyone needs! It is obvious that our teachers go above and beyond their teaching and administrative roles and have our best interests at heart.

What's your favorite thing about Darlington?
The tight-knit community we will always be a part of – even after we graduate!

Describe an experience that you've had at Darlington that you couldn't have had anywhere else.
The Senior Ventures Program has given me some really cool opportunities and has connected me with amazing mentors. The Alumni Office has also introduced me to some amazing alumni who have helped me with my art and college search. And, of course, being friends and knowing so many people from different countries is an opportunity I wouldn't have if I went to any other school in the community.

What are some of the ways you've grown since you first came to Darlington?
I have been able to grow my relationship with Christ by having amazing teachers I can share my faith with, while also learning about other religions. My recent fascination has been the perceived gap between faith and science. I have been able to research and have conversations about this with Mr. Hudson and ended up writing a lot of college essays about bridging this gap! I see science as an avenue of worshiping the Lord by studying His creation, revealing His attention to detail in the process. This is something I definitely couldn't have done at any other school, and is why I want to continue studying biology in college.

Where do you want to go to college and what is your dream job?
College is undecided at this point, but I am very excited to see where I will end up next year and connect with other Darlington alumni! My dream job is to be an oral surgeon or doing something creative.
