My Senior Ventures project is called Nadu Photography - Business & Service. During this project, I transformed my passion for photography into a new business for myself and also found a unique way to serve the Rome community by utilizing my love for animals. By combining these passions, I wanted to inspire other students at school to grow their passions and to encourage people to find ways to serve in areas they care about. This way, students learn not to let their age or inexperience limit them.
My passion for science began with childhood curiosity about the world around me, which later inspired me to co-publish a children’s science book. I shared this book with students through school visits and a story time event at River & Hill Books, and I observed lower grades science classes to learn how to make my lessons more engaging. As I work on a second book, my goal is to help young students see science as exciting, accessible and full of discovery.
I knew I wanted to design my Senior Ventures project around one of my passions: government. What I did not know is that it would grow to encompass three of my passions and the three aspects of the Darlington motto: Wisdom more than Knowledge, Service beyond Self, Honor above Everything.
My Senior Ventures project, “The Creative Athlete,” focuses on expanding and integrating the fine arts and athletic groups at Darlington. As someone who has been involved in both the fine arts and athletics and has seen the positive impact that participating in both activities can have on students, I feel it is very important for students' growth to participate in both.
As an aspiring entrepreneur, I didn’t want to create another discussion about business; I wanted to create an experience for those interested. Senior Ventures has given me the opportunity to provide real exposure to students fascinated by entrepreneurship.
When I was in elementary and middle school, I read all the time. I had the time, and I loved to learn more about my interests. As I entered high school, I noticed the people around me weren’t reading, and I started to realize I wasn’t either. Even though I wasn’t reading anymore, I still enjoyed it and saw its value. I found myself missing reading and the simple joy it used to bring to my life. So, when I was given the opportunity to rally awareness and action for something through my senior ventures project, I chose to focus on the subject of reading.
