Fifth-grader Rosalie Fife was named the winner of the annual Thatcher Hall Spelling Bee after correctly spelling the championship word, "swaggering."

"Winning the spelling bee is such a gift," said Fife. "I had so much fun participating. I want to thank my teachers and friends for supporting and loving me. This was such an amazing experience."

Eighth-graders Finley Laliberte and Logan Russell finished the competition as runners-up.

In total, 33 students from grades 4-8 participated in the Spelling Bee.

"Each student dedicated time to study and prepare, demonstrating commitment, confidence, and remarkable bravery as they stepped up to the microphone," said Rebekah Kinney, assistant director of Pre-K to 8. "Thank you to our moderator and announcer, third-grade teacher Steve McConnell, and to our judges, middle grades English teacher Misty Boling and middle grades math teacher Kevin Ivester, for their time and leadership."

Rosalie is the daughter of Joanna and Joe Fife of Rome.
