A Darlington student is made up of many things. None of which is average. We help our students develop their interests, passions and pursuits, because we believe every individual has something to contribute. We also believe that only when you're 100% you, are you 100% Darlington.

Here at Darlington, every student’s path is different. We think that's a good thing.

Let’s get to know Shayali Patel, a four-year day student from Rome whose Senior Ventures project involved developing a sustainable recycling program at Darlington.

When you think of Darlington, what three words come to mind first?

Thornwood

The Green Team (recycling program), Academic Mentoring Program, Inkslinger, the tennis team and Senior Ventures

If you play sports, who is your favorite coach and why?
My favorite coach is Mr. Owens because he makes playing tennis fun and he makes the team feel like a family.

My favorite place is the Communication Office because of how welcoming they are, and I can always stop by to get a sweet treat!

Who's your favorite teacher and why?
Picking a favorite is difficult because everyone is so caring but I love Mrs. Kinney and Mr. Eady because they make class enjoyable and encourage you to be your best

I love being a part of a tight-knit community!

Describe an experience that you've had at Darlington that you couldn't have had anywhere else.
At Darlington, I was able to meet new people from around the world and follow my passions by starting a recycling program with the Senior Ventures class. I also learned new things I wouldn't have elsewhere through iPeriods.

What are some of the ways you've grown since you first came to Darlington?
I became more confident in myself and was able to grow out of my shell.
