“This is Why” - The School Crest

In early May, I had the opportunity to visit with our students in the Early Learning Academy through eighth grade and talk with them about the school crest. We noted first that everyday they wear the crest as part of their uniform, and we talked about what the symbols represent.


Our crest includes a lion, which represents courage; two shaking hands, which represents friendshipan open book with a torch, which represents scholarship; and a knight’s helmet, which represents honor.


I then asked each group of students what these words mean to them.

Here are the symbols of our school crest in the minds of our youngest students through fifth grade:




COURAGE

Being brave on the first day of school

Nervous but do it anyway

Trying stuff
