Upper School Band Welcomes Special Guests

The Upper School Band has continued their journey toward Large Group Performance Evaluation (LGPE) throughout this semester. This has required diligent rehearsals and close attention to details. We have been pleased to welcome a few special guests into the band room to give us advice on how we can be our absolute best for this important adjudication.

In the month of February, we worked with Dr. Duane Warfied, director of bands at the University of the Cumberlands, and Dr. Alyssa Grey, director of bands at Berry College. Both of these fantastic conductors provided guidance and wisdom that will take our performance to the next level.

Preparing for LGPE requires a band to present three prepared selections, which must come from a list created by Georgia Music Educators Association. Bands must also be ready to sight read a full-length piece or play it upon seeing the music for the first time. All of this must be performed at the highest level possible.

Darlington's Upper School Band will travel to Woodland High School in Cartersville, Ga., on March 18 to participate in LGPE. We will perform our three prepared selections for a panel of three judges, and the sight reading for one judge. The Upper School Band also looks forward to presenting their music at our Chapel service on March 5. The band will then travel to Berry College's recital hall to practice adjusting to a bigger auditorium setting. Best of luck to these Tiger musicians!
