3-5 Exploratory: Snow Day! - Part 1

Monday, February 9, 2026 | By Jamie Massey | 19 views

Students in grades 3-5 were treated to an Olympics-themed exploratory "snow day" by their teachers. The day began with a surprise snowball attack and then a snowball throwing competition, and included several fun, enriching themed activities. The students created unique paper snowflakes during what has become an annual winter activity. Each year, our older students help the younger students with the detailed folds, cuts and attachments. Another fun part of our snow day was the skier STEM challenge and race. The teams constructed their skiers using aluminum foil and attached craft stick skis, then raced them on an incline. An interesting part of the day was learning about curling from special guest Dr. Dixon Freeman. We even tried our hands at curling with miniature table top curling sets. Our P.E. activity was sled racing on scooters. We participated in a fun technology sled dog race as well. The day ended with Winter Olympics trivia and a sweet "gold medal" snack.
