The Pre-K to 8 Service Committee learned from the Northwest Georgia Hunger Ministries (food bank) that the Backpack Buddy program serves more than 2,000 children every week across Floyd, Polk, Gordon, Chattooga, and Bartow Counties—children who face food insecurity and often don’t know where their next meal will come from. Because of changes in federal and state funding, the program will not receive new funds until April-June, and the food bank currently has enough supplies to last only through December.
The Service Committee set a goal to collect 2,000 food items in two week's time. In true Tiger fashion, our community answered the call and collected a grand total of 5,293 items. The food was picked up today and students helped to pack the truck. We want to thank students, teachers, advisers, and familes for supporting this food drive. We encourage other organizations to work together and start food drives all around the surrounding area. We have proven that a servant's heart can help and that many hands make light work.
