I am a member of the Senior Ventures class, and the name of my project is Black Community Awareness. I recently completed a display in the Upper School Library that includes a variety of books by prominent black authors. Members of my Black History Showcase iPeriod have also been working on a Black History Month display for the McCallie-Kennedy Center. With assistance from art teacher Kathy O'Mara, we have painted portraits of famous black Americans. The Black History Showcase opening will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 21 from 1:20 to 2 p.m. Click here to read more about Noelle's Senior Ventures project, which also focuses on assisting the non-profit organization A Teen's Choice in Rome, Ga. The purpose of A Teen's Choice is to provide young women the support they need in order to shape them into leaders of the future.
Senior Ventures is a year-long academic program built on a framework of leadership, innovation and community engagement. Through a proven self-guided exploratory process, seniors whose proposals are selected for this program work independently to develop a project that’s interdisciplinary in scope and is connective, performance-based, investigative, or entrepreneurial.
