Third-graders made their annual trip to Publix for a hands-on, real-world math exercise. The classes were divided into four meal groups, breakfast, lunch, dinner and late-night munchies, and were tasked with feeding a family of four on a budget of $50 per meal. They had to plan well-balanced meals from the different food groups using knowledge they had received during P.E. sessions with Senior Ventures student Heidi Botwinik ('23) and her nutrition talks. They worked together as a group and had to rely on their addition, subtraction, multiplication and rounding skills to stay under budget. Each group had a parent chaperone who escorted them through the store.
