Chapel: Veterans Day Panel Discussion

Today during chapel, Alumni Council President Robert Hortman ('99, LD '18) moderated a panel discussion with four veterans from the Darlington Community.

Robert Hortman (’99, LD ’18), a commander in the U.S. Navy, began his service in 2003. He and his wife, Nancy, are the parents of kindergartn student Wills and third-grader West.

JJ Johnson served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1996 to 2000. He and his wife, Dr. Bridgette Dingle-Johnson, are the parents of pre-K student Katherine. 

Bill Kelly (’71) served as a commander in the United States Navy from 1971 to 1996. He was an F-14A “Tomcat” fighter pilot and a TOPGUN graduate. He and his wife, Mai Mai ('72T), are the parents of alumni Molly (’98), Bess (’00) and Jack (’11). Their granddaughter, Mary Alston, is in kindergartn at Darlington. 

Harry Pierce served in the U.S. Air Force from 1976 to 1980. He is the father of Olivia, Bronson (’13) and Victoria (’16). He and his wife, Terri, are the parents of seventh-grader Sara Jo.

Al Shorey, chairman of the math department, served as a lieutenant colonel from 1992 to 2013. He and his wife, Stephanie, are the parents of Charlie (’16) and Alan (’18).
