Day #SeniorSpotlight: Heidi Holder

Maddie Chastain | May 6, 2026 | 9 views

A Darlington student is made up of many things. None of which is average. We help our students develop their interests, passions and pursuits, because we believe every individual has something to contribute. We also believe that only when you're 100% you, are you 100% Darlington.

Here at Darlington, every student’s path is different. We think that's a good thing.

Let’s get to know Heidi Holder, an eight-year day student from Rome who recently served as Miss Coosa Valley’s Teen and is passionate about serving her community through organizations like Shining Stars.

When you think of Darlington, what three words come to mind first?
I think of community, opportunity, and growth. This school has helped me connect with my community, due to service hours, I have been able to partner with an organization called Shining Stars these past four years. I’ve also been given so many opportunities through academics and extracurricular activities that encourage us to step outside our comfort zones and try new things. Most importantly, I’ve experienced a lot of growth, both personally and academically, during my time here.

What song reminds you of high school?
“Friday I’m in Love” by The Cure

What's your favorite show to binge watch?
“Dance Moms”

What's your favorite restaurant in Rome?
Chick-fil-A

What house are you a member of?
Regester

What are you involved in?
Game day cheer, football cheer, lacrosse, dance, and pageants

If you play sports, who is your favorite coach and why?
I love all of my lacrosse coaches because they constantly push me to be my best. They challenge me to work harder, stay disciplined, and never settle. At the same time, they also support and believe in me, which motivates me. Their encouragement and high standards have helped me grow not just in lacrosse, but as a person as well.

What's your favorite place on campus and why?
I really enjoy sitting by the lake between classes because it gives me a chance to clear my head while being able to see all the beautiful things in nature.

Who's your favorite teacher and why?
My favorite teacher is Mr. Cox. Not only does he make English fun and interesting, but he teaches it in a really unique way that I’ve never experienced before. He always goes deeper into topics and encourages us to think beyond just the surface. He also takes the time to get to know me not just as a student, but as a person. I enjoy when he asks my opinion on our work or how lacrosse season is going.

What’s your favorite thing about Darlington?
Having a free period at and being able to go off campus with my friends. Usually we study at Chick-fil-A, try the new Crumbl flavors, or just drive around and talk. Those little moments with my friends ended up being some of my favorite memories.

Describe an experience that you've had at Darlington that you couldn't have had anywhere else.
One experience at Darlington was getting to work with the community after winning my title as Miss Coosa Valley’s Teen. I got to spend a day at the cottages as a princess for the younger kids, and they even made me cards before I went to Columbus to compete in Miss Georgia’s Teen. I also got to make an appearance at the Special Olympics, which Darlington hosts every year for kids with special needs in Floyd County, and it was such a fun and meaningful experience.

What are some of the ways you've grown since you first came to Darlington?
Darlington has given me the opportunity to try new things that I wouldn’t have been able to experience at other schools. For example, I was able to try playing lacrosse, which most schools in my county don’t even have.

What is your dream job?
A fashion designer or a model
