Eighth-graders Makinley Barton and Britton Pinson were named "Terrific Students" by the Rotary Club of Rome. This honor recognizes young people who demonstrate strong character, leadership, and a commitment to making a positive impact in their school and community.

"Makinley consistently demonstrates a positive attitude, genuine enthusiasm and strong determination in everything she does," said middle school math teacher Chris Eberhart. "She comes into math class each day with a smile, bringing an upbeat energy even when the material is challenging. She approaches difficult concepts with confidence and persistence, never shying away from hard work. Makinley is also a supportive and collaborative classmate—she willingly offers help to others and contributes to a positive learning environment for everyone around her. Beyond the classroom, Makinley recently completed a demanding basketball season, showing the same perseverance and commitment that she brings to her academics. She is well-liked by her peers and builds strong connections with everyone in her classes. Though she may be soft-spoken, her kindness, work ethic, and positive spirit are unmistakable. All of her teachers have highly recommended her, recognizing that she is an outstanding candidate for this recognition."

Barton is the daughter of Brittany Barton of Rome, Ga.

"On the baseball field, Britton truly embodies what it means to be a team player," said Eberhart. "A few weeks ago, I asked him where he wanted to play, and without hesitation, he responded, 'Wherever the team needs me.' That simple answer says everything about his character. He is consistently positive, always smiling, and brings an uplifting energy to everyone around him. I know that whether I’m present or not, Britton will always do the right thing—and more importantly, he encourages others to do the same. Quite honestly, every coach would love a full team of players just like him. In the classroom, Britton is no different. He is soft-spoken, respectful, and always ready to take on a challenge. I have never heard him complain; instead, he approaches every task with a 'can-do' attitude and a determination to figure things out. His classmates genuinely enjoy being around him, and he plays an important role in our eighth-grade community. What stands out most is his quiet leadership. On many occasions, I’ve seen Britton step in to help classmates with difficult assignments or take the time to guide younger players as they develop their skills. He leads not by seeking attention, but by consistently doing what’s right and lifting others up."

Pinson is the son of Courtney and Will Pinson of Rome, Ga.
