Seniors Sophie Piller and Myles Twyman will be recognized as Darlington's winners of the Rome Orthopaedic Student Athlete Scholarship during the annual Rome-Floyd Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony and banquet on Thursday, Feb. 19, at the Forum River Center.
"Sophie and Myles have left a lasting mark on Darlington through their leadership, character, and competitive spirit," said Mitch Jordan ('90), athletic director. "This honor is a reflection of who they are and how they lead."
A four-year day student from Rome, Piller is a four-year member of the volleyball and tennis teams. This fall, she was named All-Area Second Team in volleyball and earned an honorable mention for the All-County Team. In tennis, she was named to the All-Region Team last spring. She has helped lead both teams to the state playoffs and the tennis team to a state championship in 2023.
Piller was named a Commended Student in the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program. She serves as head prefect of Regester House and is a member of the "Y" Cabinet, Senior Ventures program, Student Arts Council, Advancement Ambassadors, National Honor Society, and Jabberwokk yearbook staff. She is the daughter of Kathleen and Dr. Chris Piller of Rome.
A 12-year day student from Rome, Twyman is a four-year member of the football and baseball teams. This fall, he was named to the All-County Team and All-Region First Team in football and was twice named the Rome News-Tribune Player of the Week. He was also named to the All-Region Second Team in baseball last spring.
Twyman serves as a dorm leader for Neville House and is a member of the "Y" Cabinet, Advancement Ambassadors, Student Activities Committee, National Honor Society, Tri-M Music Honor Society, Sociedad Honoria Hispanica, He is also a graduate of the Rome Floyd Chamber's EMERGE High School Leadership Rome program. He is the son of Tashia and Chris Twyman of Rome.
