From the Director of Pre-K to 8: The Recurring Moment

Hope Jones | September 29, 2025

By now, we’ve all settled into the familiar rhythms of fall. The excitement of the new year has softened into routine, and the real work of learning has begun. It is around this time that things start to shift. Some students feel the pace pick up. Others begin to revisit old challenges. This is when the road ahead starts to twist, and the journey reveals something profound: The Recurring Moment.

The recurring moment is one of the most powerful and underappreciated parts of learning. It is the moment that returns again and again, offering students another chance to try, to grow, and to get it right. If you’ve ever watched your child bump up against the same challenge more than once, maybe a tricky spelling rule, a math concept that will not quite stick, or a friendship dynamic that keeps resurfacing, you’ve seen the recurring moment in action. These moments can feel frustrating. But they are also the heartbeat of real growth. They come back again and again not to test our children, but to offer them another chance to rise, to respond, and to try again with more confidence and clarity than before.

This is why parent-teacher conferences matter so deeply. They are more than just updates. They are intentional pauses in the journey where we, as the adults in your child’s life, get to sit together and ask: What keeps showing up? What strengths are emerging? What habits are repeating? And how can we partner to help your child move through these moments with resilience? These conversations help students understand that growth is not about getting everything right the first time. It is about recognizing patterns and showing up differently the next time they appear.

For our younger students, these conferences help us align our approach and support early growth with care. In the middle grades, we encourage students to take part in the conversation so they can begin to name their own patterns and reflect on what it means to meet a familiar challenge with new tools. Whether your child is navigating a recurring academic concept or learning to manage social transitions, your perspective matters. And your partnership strengthens the process.

Even though we formally schedule conferences in October and again in March, please know that you are always welcome to reach out. When something starts to repeat, good or hard, it is often a sign that it is time to talk. And we are here for that.

This journey we’re on together is not about speed or perfection. It is about direction and growth. And it is in these recurring moments, both in the classroom and in conversation, that we find some of the most meaningful opportunities to support your child.

We are grateful to travel this road with you and look forward to seeing you during Fall Conferences.
