Boarding #SeniorSpotlight: Daelyn Lee

Maddie Chastain | May 9, 2025 | 44 views

A Darlington student is made up of many things. None of which is average. We help our students develop their interests, passions and pursuits, because we believe every individual has something to contribute. We also believe that only when you're 100% you, are you 100% Darlington.

Here at Darlington, every student’s path is different. We think that's a good thing.

Let’s get to know Daelyn Lee, a three-year boarding student from Korea who says, “The one thing I love [about Darlington] is that whatever I want, I can do it here. If I have some idea or something I want to try, there's so many teachers who want to help us, and I can actually implement things into the school culture and influence my community in a positive way.”

Musical and singing. I love the stage experience, with costume and music. Music has always supported me and I get comfort from it.

What's your favorite place on campus?
Tiger Tutor Lab, Regester (especially my dorm room), Ms. Brewer's Office

Who's your favorite teacher and why?
Mr. Hudson, Mr. Shorey, Mrs. Kuckhoff. They all are good at teaching and their classes helped me a lot to understand difficult subjects. Their lectures are very structured and they are so active to help the students.

What’s your favorite thing about Darlington?
The one thing I love here is that whatever I want, I can do it here. If I have some idea or something I want to try, there's so many teachers who want to help us, and I can actually implement things into the school culture and influence my community in a positive way. The fact that all faculty members are up to help is my favorite part of Darlington. Also, If I want to challenge myself academically, there are not many hurdles at Darlington. I can try the lectures I want to take, and I can try competitions. My spectrum of experience got expanded a lot during these three years. I've done shows, been involved in sports, ran some clubs, delved into my interests more deeply (environmental interest through Green Team), and accomplished some significant goals from it.

Describe an experience that you've had at Darlington that you couldn't have had anywhere else.
Choreographing for RUMPUS; painting huge banners and Game Day signs for my house; being a whole family as a dorm; and communicating with many different people from diverse countries, cultures, and communities. Also, I love to be relaxed on campus; sitting by a lake and listening to the birds is lovely.

What are some of the ways you've grown since you first came to Darlington?
I think the way I view the world and people has changed a lot. When I first came to Darlington, my view was very limited and I thought only what I believe is the right thing to believe. However, there are so many different people with different perspectives and cultures, and the process of adopting their way of living is really exciting. I think now I am more mature. I know what to prioritize and what to focus on now.

What is your dream job?
Doctor, engineer, professor, global communicator, environmental scientist
