Day #SeniorSpotlight: Jack Webb

Maddie Chastain | May 8, 2025 | 98 views

A Darlington student is made up of many things. None of which is average. We help our students develop their interests, passions and pursuits, because we believe every individual has something to contribute. We also believe that only when you're 100% you, are you 100% Darlington.

Here at Darlington, every student’s path is different. We think that's a good thing.

Let’s get to know Jack Webb, a first-year day student from Cincinnati, Ohio, who says Darlington has taught him to step out of his comfort zone, try new things, and not be afraid of failure.

Who is your favorite coach and why?
My favorite coach is Mr Kinney. Mr. Kinney is a dedicated and inspiring coach who brings out the best in his athletes. He leads with patience, positivity, and a deep understanding of the game, creating a supportive environment where everyone feels motivated to improve. His ability to balance discipline with encouragement helps build not only skill but also confidence and teamwork. Mr. Kinney’s passion and commitment make him a role model, pushing his team to strive for excellence while always reminding them to have fun and enjoy the journey.

What's your favorite place on campus and why?
The lake on our high school campus is one of my favorite places. It’s peaceful and quiet, making it a perfect spot to relax and clear my mind after a busy day. I love watching the sunlight reflect off the water and seeing ducks glide across the surface. Sometimes, my friends and I sit by the shore to talk or study, and it always feels calming to be surrounded by nature. The lake adds something special to our school — a place where I can take a breath, enjoy the scenery, and feel more connected to the outdoors.

Who's your favorite teacher and why?
Mrs. Kuckhoff is an exceptional teacher who makes learning engaging and meaningful. She has a talent for breaking down complex concepts into simple, relatable ideas, ensuring every student feels supported and confident. Her enthusiasm for teaching is contagious, creating a classroom environment where students feel encouraged to ask questions and explore new ideas. Mrs. Kuckhoff also takes the time to get to know her students, offering guidance and motivation both in and out of the classroom. Her kindness, patience, and passion for education make her not just a great teacher, but a role model who leaves a lasting impact on her students.

What’s your favorite thing about Darlington?
My favorite thing about my school is the sense of community. Whether it’s in the classroom, at sports games, or during school events, there’s always a feeling of support and belonging. The teachers genuinely care about our success and make learning enjoyable, while my classmates create a fun and welcoming environment where everyone feels included.

Describe an experience that you've had at Darlington that you couldn't have had anywhere else.
I love how there are so many opportunities to get involved, from clubs to spirit weeks, making it easy to connect with others and build lasting friendships. It’s a place where I’ve grown, learned, and made unforgettable memories.

What are some of the ways you've grown since you first came to Darlington?
Since joining Darlington, I’ve grown so much as a person. I’ve become more confident in myself, learning to speak up in class and share my ideas. I’ve also gotten better at managing my time, balancing schoolwork, extracurriculars, and my social life. Darlington has taught me to step out of my comfort zone, try new things, and not be afraid of failure. Along the way, I’ve built strong friendships and learned the value of supporting others. Overall, I’ve become more independent, responsible, and sure of who I am and who I want to be.

What is your dream job?
My dream job is to be a computer engineer because I love solving problems and working with technology. I’m fascinated by how computers work and enjoy learning about coding, software development, and building systems that can make life easier and more efficient. As a computer engineer, I want to design and create innovative technology that can have a positive impact on the world. Whether it’s developing new apps, improving cybersecurity, or creating smarter devices, I’m excited to be part of a field that’s always evolving. I know it will be challenging, but that’s what makes it exciting — there’s always something new to learn and discover.
