Boarding #SeniorSpotlight: Jora Wu

Maddie Chastain | May 6, 2025 | 80 views

A Darlington student is made up of many things. None of which is average. We help our students develop their interests, passions and pursuits, because we believe every individual has something to contribute. We also believe that only when you're 100% you, are you 100% Darlington.

Here at Darlington, every student’s path is different. We think that's a good thing.

Let’s get to know Jora Wu, a three-year boarding student from Shanghai, China, who loves to play the piano.

When you think of Darlington, what three words come to mind first?
Wisdom, Service, Honor

What song reminds you of high school?
"Runaway” by Aurora

What's your favorite show to binge watch?
“2 Broke Girls”

What's your favorite restaurant in Rome?
Texas Roadhouse

What house are you a member of?
Regester

What are you involved in?
Musical Crew, Dar Farm, Math Team, Tiger Tutors

If you are involved in fine arts, what is your favorite activity and why?
My favorite activity is the Keyboard Musicianship class, which is a relief from other academic classes. I can pick whichever piece I like to work on. Mrs. Johnson is always so patient in helping me to make sure how every single beat of both left hand and right hand matches with each other accurately.

What's your favorite place on campus and why?
My room, where I spend most of my time.

What’s your favorite thing about Darlington?
The free period policy. The class schedule at Darlington is kind of similar to that in universities. Free periods give me relief from class to class. I often schedule ahead what I want to do during those periods: whether work on homework or just chill and chat with friends in the Student Center.

What are some of the ways you've grown since you first came to Darlington?
I learned that extracurriculars and events that I am involved in are far more important than the academic grades. It is important to cherish people around me.

What is your dream job?
A job that makes me financially independent from anybody else.
