Senior Atlas Kosedag has been named Noon Optimist Student of the Month for September.
A day student who has been enrolled at Darlington since fifth grade, Kosedag has taken 21 Honors and AP classes and serves as president of the student body. He is a day leader in Neville House, president of the Servant Leadership Committee, a "Y" Cabinet leader, a Tiger Tutor leader, and coverage editor for the Jabberwokk yearbook. He is also a four-year member of the varsity cross country, swim and track teams, and a member of the Senior Ventures program.
As a freshman and a junior, Kosedag received the Darlington Parents Association Class Citizenship Awards.
Outside of school, he enjoys volunteering with ESP Rome, which aims to create transformative experiences for people with disabilities and their families, changing communities for the better. He volunteers throughout the year and was also selected to be a counselor at ESP's summer camp.
"Atlas' unwavering enthusiasm for his teammates, classmates and friends makes him an inspiring example of optimism for us all to emulate," said Dean of College Guidance Ivy Brewer, Kosedgag's college advisor. "Truly, he exemplifies that part of the Optimist Creed which states that we should be 'just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.' Atlas enhances the Darlington Community every day."
The son of Dr. Arman Kosedag of Rome, Atlas will be honored at an Optimist Club luncheon on Sept. 10.
