A Darlington student is made up of many things. None of which is average. We help our students develop their interests, passions and pursuits, because we believe every individual has something to contribute. We also believe that only when you're 100% you, are you 100% Darlington.

Here at Darlington, every student’s path is different. We think that's a good thing.

Let’s get to know Xiya Burton, a seven-year day student from Rome who was stage manager for this year’s winter musical, “Chicago: Teen Edition.”

When you think of Darlington, what three words come to mind first?
Independent, community, culture

What song reminds you of high school?
"Grow" by Conan Gray

What's your favorite show to binge watch?
“The Crown” or “Bridgerton”

What's your favorite restaurant in Rome?
Chipotle or Las Palmas

What house are you a member of?

What are you involved in at Darlington?
Co-chair of GSA (Gay Straight Alliance), co-member of BSU (Black Student Union), stage manager for the winter musical, member of the Student Arts Council

If you are involved in fine arts, what is your favorite activity and why?
I am a stage manager in the winter musical. Theater has allowed me to show off my creativity and learn more skills such as building, costume design, leadership, teamwork, and many more. I love being a part of the crew and I am so glad I was able to be stage manager this year.

What's your favorite place on campus and why?
The new library - it's a great place to hang out with my friends during office hours and free periods.

Who's your favorite teacher and why?
Mr. Kinney is my favorite teacher. I have him for two of my classes. He always makes sure that you feel comfortable talking to him and finds ways to make the class fun. I can always have a conversation with him outside of class and just talk. He is overall an amazing person.

What’s your favorite thing about Darlington?
Being with my friends and meeting new people from many different countries.

Describe an experience that you've had at Darlington that you couldn't have had anywhere else.
The International Fair - being able to try different snacks and foods from all the countries represented at Darlington. It is also amazing because you get to experience a small part of their culture.

What are some of the ways you've grown since you first came to Darlington?
I have been able to manage my time better, I have matured and come out of my comfort zone a lot more, and I have made so many friendships with many people from all around.

What is your dream job?
Nurse midwife/labor and delivery nurse
