Day #SeniorSpotlight: Charlie May

Maddie Chastain | March 27, 2024 | 329 views

A Darlington student is made up of many things. None of which is average. We help our students develop their interests, passions and pursuits, because we believe every individual has something to contribute. We also believe that only when you're 100% you, are you 100% Darlington.

Here at Darlington, every student’s path is different. We think that's a good thing.

Let’s get to know Charlie May, a 14-year day student from Rome who is headed to the World Championship with the Dar Bots robotics team this spring.

When you think of Darlington, what three words come to mind first?
Purple, RUMPUS, Tigers

What's your favorite show to binge watch?
“Survivor”

What's your favorite restaurant in Rome?
Las Palmas

What house are you a member of?
Summerbell

What are you involved in at Darlington?
Robotics, lacrosse, Summerbell House dorm leader, Tiger Tutor leader, Random Notes men’s a cappella group

If you play sports, who is your favorite coach and why?
I play lacrosse, but my favorite coach is Owen Kinney (robotics).

If you are involved in fine arts, what is your favorite activity and why?
Random notes, because it's funnier to fail at singing than to fail at painting.

What's your favorite place on campus and why?
The MakerSpace is my favorite place because that is where robotics is. I can also create whatever can come to mind in that area. I spend most of my time at school there.

Who's your favorite teacher and why?
Mr. Willerson because his classes are always fun.

What’s your favorite thing about Darlington?
RUMPUS and the dub that Summerbell took my final year.

Describe an experience that you've had at Darlington that you couldn't have had anywhere else.
I can't think of one experience, but I think it's the fact that I have been able to do so much at Darlington such as doing robotics, being a dorm leader, playing lacrosse, and the other leadership roles I took on. At other schools, it isn't possible to do that much.

What are some of the ways you've grown since you first came to Darlington?
I would say since pre-K I have gained confidence throughout my time at Darlington in who I am and my abilities.

What is your dream job?
Anything in engineering.
