One of my passions is playing tennis. I am currently a member of Darlington's Tennis Academy, and I have been playing the game for 11 years. I was ranked No. 2 in Nigeria for junior tennis, and I have had the opportunity to represent my country in several tournaments outside of Nigeria. The purpose of my project is to teach children the fundamentals of tennis. I started by working with a small group at the Boys & Girls Club after school. I was able to provide them with a net and tennis rackets, and I taught them the basics of the game. I also worked with a group of students in grades 3-5 at Darlington. I focused on footwork, serving, and forehand and backhand strokes. This after-school activity took place two times a week for a month. I have not been able to work with children during tennis season, but I am planning to develop an online class that provides videos of tennis basics children can use as a guide. More than anything, I want to instill in younger children a passion for playing the game I love.
Senior Ventures is a year-long academic program built on a framework of leadership, innovation and community engagement.
