My project name, DEPTHS, is an acronym that stands for the different mental instabilities that I am animating short videos about.
The first one, featured in this blog, is (D)ysthymia, which is essentially an alternate, longer-lasting form of depression.
The second is (E)motionally Unstable Personality Disorder, which is a blanket term for various personality disorders. Symptoms usually include a fluctuation in emotions, feelings of insecurity heightening, impaired social relations, etc.
The next is about (P)TSD, which stands for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. This disorder is caused by an experience in the past that leaves a lasting impression on the brain, leaving the host susceptible to triggers.
(T)ransient Global Amnesia is a disorder where someone who is normal and alert one moment and then the next they are having an episode of forgetfulness, otherwise this disorder is in a subgroup of Amnesia.
(H)ypersomnia is a condition in which one feels extraordinarily tired throughout the day, no matter how much sleep they get prior. Another symptom is sleeping longer than usual at night.
The last one is (S)ocial Anxiety, in which the host feels like they are constantly being judged and are always on edge in any social situation. Social Anxiety is an ever-present phobia that inhibits one's flow within a conversation and how one presents themselves.
Through the apps Procreate and Clip Studio Paint, I will be animating short animatics that depict an artistic interpretation of each of these disorders.
