Day #SeniorSpotlight: Luci Saxton

Maddie Chastain | February 19, 2023 | 249 views

A Darlington student is made up of many things. None of which is average. We help our students develop their interests, passions and pursuits, because we believe every individual has something to contribute. We also believe that only when you're 100% you, are you 100% Darlington.

Here at Darlington, every student’s path is different. We think that's a good thing.

Let’s get to know Luci Saxton, a five-year day student from Cedartown, Ga., who appreciates the sense of community at Darlington.

When you think of Darlington, what three words come to mind first?
Community, family, fun

What's your favorite show to binge watch?
“Grey’s Anatomy”

What house are you a member of?
Cooper

What are you involved in at Darlington?
Inkslinger (literary magazine), cheerleading, yearbook

If you play sports, who is your favorite coach and why?
Melissa Smyly because she has been a great mentor and she has always been there for me whether it was for cheer, school, or my personal life. She always listens when I need to talk, she has shown me what it is to better yourself, and she has taught me how to grow from struggles. She never fails to brighten my day or to give me advice when I need it. She is one of the most understanding teachers and coaches I have ever had, and she has done everything in her power to make sure I feel safe and supported and appreciated at school and at cheer.

What's your favorite place on campus and why?
My favorite place on campus is Payton Guest's office because I love to sit in there and talk to her about anything and everything while I do homework or just whatever I need to work on. Nobody ever goes in there except for a few of Mr. Bell's advisees, so it's a safe space to go and chat when I need it.

Who's your favorite teacher and why?
My favorite teachers are Mrs. Haynes and Mr. Pender. They both never fail to make me laugh and question why I even try at school.

What’s your favorite thing about Darlington?
My favorite thing about Darlington is the connections you make but also the diversity. People say it's clique-y but I find myself in different groups of people all the time and people are never hesitant to start conversations or make a joke just for the sake of making people laugh.

Describe an experience that you've had at Darlington that you couldn't have had anywhere else.
RUMPUS. I went to public school until eighth grade and I never have seen so many different groups of people come together just to celebrate being here and making it to second semester. The way everybody comes together and just has fun without excluding anybody is just remarkable and the surge of energy all over campus is just something really unique.

What are some of the ways you've grown since you first came to Darlington?
I have grown so much since I first came to Dar. I have learned how to be independent mentally and physically and how to navigate the struggles of being a teenage girl.

What is your dream job?
I want to be a forensic psychologist.

If you have already committed to a college, please let us know which one you will be attending.
Mercer University
