Day #SeniorSpotlight: Wesley Inman

A Darlington student is made up of many things. None of which is average. We help our students develop their interests, passions and pursuits, because we believe every individual has something to contribute. We also believe that only when you're 100% you, are you 100% Darlington.

Here at Darlington, every student’s path is different. We think that's a good thing.

Let’s get to know Wesley Inman, a six-year day student from Rome who loves being involved in Darlington’s theater program.

When you think of Darlington, what three words come to mind first?
Community, artistry, ingenuity

What song reminds you of high school?
"Float On" by Modest Mouse. Just like the song entails, no matter how bad something gets, it's important to understand how lucky we are for not sinking lower and to look on the bright side.

What's your favorite show to binge watch?
Right now, either “Survivor” or “Degrassi: The Next Generation.”

What's your favorite restaurant in Rome?
My favorite restaurant in Rome is definitely Zaxby's. There are some close ones, but nothing comes close to the genuinely marvelous taste of Zaxby's.

What house are you a member of?
Neville

What are you involved in at Darlington?
I am involved in Darlington's live theater program, and I am a tutor in Darlington's Writing Center.

If you are involved in fine arts, what is your favorite activity and why?
My favorite activity in fine arts is working in the crew in theater, specifically working in props. No matter how much dust makes me sneeze, I never get tired of going up in that attic.

What's your favorite place on campus and why?
My favorite place on campus is probably Wilcox Hall; from The Growl, to the vending machines, to the welcoming presence of all the faculty there, it's a great place to be around, at least when there isn't a traffic jam.

Who's your favorite teacher and why?
My favorite teachers can't be named even on two hands! Let alone one! But my favorite teachers who I've had a full class with are Mr. Cox, Mr. Enderle, Mr. Leezer, Mr. Inman, Mrs. Haynes, Mr. Owens and Mrs. Owens, Mrs. Smyly, and my director, Ms. Daniel. Special shoutout to Mrs. Holst and Mr. Allen, as I've spent lots of time sitting around in both of their offices and have been willing to return every time due to their welcoming presences.

What’s your favorite thing about Darlington?
My favorite thing about Darlington is the ability to find people you can mesh with well. The school's diversity allows it to be open for all types of groups, so anyone can find a group that appeals to their niche.

Describe an experience that you've had at Darlington that you couldn't have had anywhere else.
An experience that I've had like this could be working on “My Fair Lady” in the winter of 2022. No matter the mess that Tech Week usually brings in theater, working on finishing a show of such magnitude and being able to interact with so many talented and amazing people was one of the best experiences I've had at this school. It’s not just an experience that could be accomplished by another school that doesn't think to take the time to put effort into those types of projects.

What are some of the ways you've grown since you first came to Darlington?
I've grown in that I've learned a great deal of rules of empathy and social interaction, which has allowed me to feel closer to a lot of people and the community as a whole. Sometimes I'll just be walking through the hallway and still be surprised when someone says "Hey, Wesley.”

What is your dream job?
My dream job is to work for a magazine such as Rolling Stone.
