Alumni Council names chairman, elects four new members

Robert Hortman (‘99, LD ’18)

Darlington’s Alumni Council named Robert Hortman (‘99, LD ’18) president and elected four members at the May meeting.

Hortman is a pilot for FedEX Express after serving for more than a decade as a Commander with the U.S. Navy. A day student while at Darlington, he has served the school as both a parent and alumni volunteer and been a member of the Alumni Council for the past two years. He and his wife, Nancy, live in Rome with their sons, West (’31) and Will (’34). 

Kent Capps (’93, LD ’15) is chief financial officer for OMNIA Partners, the largest and most experienced purchasing organization for public and private sector procurement. He lives in Nashville, Tenn., with his wife and son, Robert. A boarding student while at Darlington, Capps has stayed connected with Darlington through his service on the Strategic Planning Committee, participation Leadership Darlington and membership in the J. J. Darlington Society.

Robert Day (’96, LD ’19) is president and CEO of Madison Financial and Associates in Acworth, Ga. A day student while at Darlington, he has participated in Leadership Darlington and serves as a parent volunteer along with his wife, Beth. He is also the father of Madison (‘19) and Jake (‘23). 

Jeff Snider (’92, LD ’19) is CEO/owner of Cite LLC, a nationwide court reporting and litigation services support company in Birmingham, Ala. A boarding student while at Darlington, he is a graduate of Leadership Darlington and a Darlington Connects mentor, serves on the leadership team for the Birmingham Tiger Chapter, and is a former class agent. He and his wife Kendall and daughter Sara Beth, live in Mountain Brook, Ala.

Calista (Harden) Smith (’95, LD ’18) is president of Scale Strategic Solutions, which helps organizations and systems execute their visions with data driven management consulting and program evaluation services. A boarding student while at Darlington, she has stayed connected to the school through her support of The Darlington Fund and participation in Leadership Darlington and Darlington Connects. She and her husband, Anthony, live in Cincinnati, Ohio.
