Boarding #SeniorSpotlight: Alek Wang

Tannika King | May 1, 2021 | 244 views

A Darlington student is made up of many things. None of which is average. We help our students develop their interests, passions and pursuits, because we believe every individual has something to contribute. We also believe that only when you're 100% you, are you 100% Darlington.

Here at Darlington, every student’s path is different. We think that's a good thing.

In this #SeniorSpotlight, get to know Alek Wang, a three-year boarding student from Hangzhou, China, who is a member of the Math, Physics and Robotics teams.

If you are involved in fine arts, what is your favorite activity and why?
I played the keyboard in the pit during the winter musical. It was memorable to have such an experience make a contribution to a huge music show.

What's your favorite place on campus and why?
Band room -- I spent a lot of time in there. I practice piano a lot in the band room, and I also recorded my songs there. I appreciate that the school has fine facilities for recording.

Who's your favorite teacher and why?
Mr. McVety -- we have many common topics when we chat. He is such a great gamer. We also talk about music.  I am very grateful that I can bother him anytime to help me out, like to open the Chapel door and let me practice piano in it.

What's your favorite thing about Darlington?
I feel free to do anything I want.

Describe an experience that you've had at Darlington that you couldn't have had anywhere else.
RUMPUS, our annual competition between the dorms.

What are some of the ways you've grown since you first came to Darlington?
I learned to take care of myself and how I can arrange my own time.

Where do you want to go to college and what is your dream job?
I chose to go to Washington University in St. Louis. I don't have a dream job. I believe the jobs that give me money are good jobs. After I have enough money to spend for the rest of my life, I will probably open a computer shop to make some personalized computer building service.
