Boarding #SeniorSpotlight: Grace Garlinghouse

Jennifer Collins | March 7, 2021 | 336 views

A Darlington student is made up of many things. None of which is average. We help our students develop their interests, passions and pursuits, because we believe every individual has something to contribute. We also believe that only when you're 100% you, are you 100% Darlington.

Here at Darlington, every student’s path is different. We think that's a good thing.

In this #SeniorSpotlight get to know Grace Garlinghouse, a four-year boarding student from Fayetteville, Ark., who is president of the Discipline Committee and head residential prefect of Regester House.

What's your favorite show to binge on Netflix?

“The Wilds”

What house are you a member of?

Regester House

What are you involved in at Darlington?

At Darlington, I have been on the volleyball and track teams. I am also the president of the Discipline Committee and head residential prefect of Regester House.

If you play sports, who is your favorite coach and why?

My favorite coach is Coach Hunt. Freshman year when he asked me if I wanted to run track, I told him that I am definitely not a runner. He told me to come to practice and has pushed me to be my best at every practice since.

What's your favorite place on campus and why?

My favorite place on campus is the Huffman Center because that is where I spend the most time hanging out with friends either watching games or participating in sports.

Who's your favorite teacher and why?

My favorite teacher is Mrs. Atkins because all her students can tell how much she cares about us both in and out of the classroom. Ever since I was in Mrs. Atkins' class, she continues to reach out to me and congratulate me on accomplishments or check in with me to make sure I am doing well.

What's your favorite thing about Darlington?

My favorite thing about Darlington is the friendships I have made with people from all over the world.

Describe an experience that you've had at Darlington that you couldn't have had anywhere else.

An experience that I've had at Darlington that I couldn't have had anywhere else is RUMPUS, our weekend-long competition between the dorms. RUMPUS is one of my favorite times of the year because everyone gets so excited about being part of their house and so many people get involved in as much as possible.

What are some of the ways you've grown since you first came to Darlington?

Since coming to Darlington, I have become much more outgoing and independent.

Where do you want to go to college and what is your dream job?

I plan to go to Texas Christian University and major in criminal justice. My dream job is to work in the FBI.
