The varsity swim team wrapped up regular season competition with a strong showing against 1A-3A schools in the area at Adairsville High School on Saturday placing fifth out of 10 teams. Spencer Shadday led the team with a first place finish in the 100 backstroke.
A standout moment of the day was the boy's 200 freestyle relay (Quinton Clark, Spencer Shaddy, Alexander Greene and Austin Yearout) qualifying for the state championship meet with a time of 1:39.59. The relay joins Ausin Yearout who qualified individually in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke earlier this season. Yearout also earned points for the team on Saturday, placing third in the 200 individual medley.
The girls' team posted strong swims as well, with the 200 medley relay (Anne Scott Smith, Molly Brewer, Henni Richert and Milan Delpenha) placing seventh in the championship heat. Smith and Richert led the girls in their individual events, the 500 freestyle and the 100 butterfly, both placing fifth.
The team is now preparing for state championships, which will be held at Georgia Tech February 6-8.
