Winners of the statewide Governor’s Honors Program have been announced and Marissa Joseph (‘19) has been named a finalist in the competition. Joseph will attend the program this summer that will be held on the Berry College campus.

“I am very excited and feel really honored to have been accepted into the Governor's Honors Program,” said Joseph. “Going through the GHP application process was extremely rigorous and required a lot of hard work and it’s really special to be validated in that work by the state of Georgia. It’s an amazing opportunity!”

Joseph was nominated for GHP by Karen Bennett, registrar and executive assistant to the Director of the Upper School.

“Marissa exudes confidence but not in an off putting way,” said Bennett. “Her ability to express herself and make her thoughts clear is way beyond her years.”

Bennett, along with members of the Upper School faculty, assisted Joseph with the application process and helped her prepare for the interviews.

“The GHP interview was intense!” said Joseph. “The faculty at Darlington have been very supportive, both encouraging me through the process and now that I’ve been accepted into the program. Last summer I participated in a similar program in Washington, D.C. at Georgetown University and I feel that this will build on that experience.”

The Georgia Governor’s Honors Program is a residential summer program for gifted and talented high school students who will be rising juniors and seniors during the program. The program offers instruction that is significantly different from the typical high school classroom and that is designed to provide students with academic, cultural, and social enrichment necessary to become the next generation of global critical thinkers, innovators, and leaders.

GHP is held in mid-summer (mid-June to mid-July) as a residential educational experience at Berry College. Students attend classes in the mornings and afternoons in specific areas of study, and they participate in a wide variety of social and instructional opportunities every evening.

Joseph is an Upper School boarding student from Acworth, Ga. and is the daughter of Marie Joseph.
