Scott and Tonya Greene have joined the Darlington Community, relocating to Rome from Pomfret, Ct. Scott is serving as director of the Teaching and Learning Center and Tonya is a middle grades learning specialist. They have two children who are attending Darlington this year; Alexander is in tenth grade and Addie is in kindergarten.
Scott Greene has more than 25 years of experience in education, serving most recently as director of learning services and academic dean at The Rectory School in Pomfret, Ct. There, he oversaw operations of the Individual Instructional Program, administered professional development and oversaw curriculum development, among other duties. He holds a B.S. in Business Management from The University of North Carolina - Asheville, an M.A.Ed. in Special Education from Western Carolina University, and Orton Gillingham Certification from Carolina Day School's Key Learning Center in Asheville, N.C.
“When we decided last year to look for someone to help lead a unified Pre-K to 12 Teaching and Learning Center, I was admittedly nervous but I knew great things were ahead for us if we could find just the right person,” said Stefan Eady, assistant head of school for academic resources. “I was thrilled when we found someone with Scott's extensive independent school leadership experience and solid history of success leading learning centers. Scott is the kind of cooperative and forward-thinking leader who will have the best interests of everyone in mind (students, parents, teachers) as he continues to grow and develop this important area of the school.”
Scott has worked in many areas of educational administration throughout his career, including previous service as an assistant headmaster, director of education, assistant head of middle school, and principal in independent schools throughout the South and Northeast.
“I am truly looking forward to working with the talented and dedicated faculty and administration at Darlington,” said Scott, “I have many years' experience in working with students with learning challenges and I have spent the last several years working with brain experts on designing lessons using the latest research.”
Tonya Greene has 18 years of experience in education, serving most recently as a teacher and tutor at The Rectory School in Pomfret, Ct. She holds a B.A. in Psychology from Davidson College and holds Orton Gillingham Certification from Carolina Day School's Key Learning Center in Asheville, N.C.
“Tonya's proven record teaching and supporting students who need assistance to reach their potential, whether it be writing, reading comprehension, or math, makes her a perfect fit for our younger students,” said Eady. “Her extensive experience will be a great addition to Darlington as she continues the needed work of the learning center, but she also brings a variety of skills that will help us even better target the needs of our current and future students.”
Tonya has spent the majority of her career working with students who have learning differences and has written curriculum to serve the needs of students with different learning profiles.
“Being a learning specialist for third-, fourth-, and fifth-graders is exciting,” said Tonya. “I love being an advocate for children with unique learning profiles, and I enjoy collaborating with others to plan the best way to serve the needs of students.”
In their spare time, Scott and Tonya enjoy spending time with their children, Alexander and Addie. Both enjoy exercising, reading, and playing with their newly-rescued Newfoundland dog, Mac.
