Kimberly Exford, the new lower grades learning specialist, is passionate about working with students who have learning differences and giving them the tools necessary to be successful. She holds a B.A. in Mass Communications from the University of West Georgia and an M.A. in Journalism from the University of Memphis.

“When you leave a conversation with Kimberly, you remember her enthusiasm for working with children, her wide range of abilities for assessing student capability, her professionalism, and simply a sense of confidence that she will take care of your child,” said Stefan Eady, assistant head of school for academic resources. “Her many years of teaching and leading in learning centers has has left her abundantly capable of partnering with teachers and parents to help our students be as successful as possible.”

Exford has spent the last decade working at Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes, where she has served as center director for the past year. Previously, her roles at the center included clinician/mentor, educational consultant and associate director.

“I found a passion for teaching during my first summer working for Lindamood Bell Learning Processes,” said Exford. “I was a seasonal clinician looking to work with children for the summer, but I walked away at the end of those eight weeks feeling energized and successful. I felt that I had made a difference in the lives of all of those children and I wanted to continue recreating those moments over and over and over again.

"Because of this amazing summer, I returned the following summer and eventually became a full-time, year-round employee," she continued. "Over the last 11 years, I have had the pleasure of working with thousands of students in schools and learning centers across the country. This has not only given me a different outlook on those students that learn differently, but it has also given me the drive to want to help them as much as possible.”

Exford looks forward to the many opportunities that she will have in both small group and classroom settings to not only assist the students, but the teachers as well.

“I love working with kids at this age (pre-K to second grade) because they are still developing foundational skills,” she said “I strongly feel that if I can provide them with the necessary support during their time with me,  they will leave feeling successful. I hope to provide them with various strategies and methods to allow each student to be successful in the classroom.”

In her free time, Exford loves to try new restaurants, travel and go to the movies. She also loves spending time with her mother and sister, who live Atlanta.

“Darlington strives to help students become strong and successful academically and also focuses on character-building,” said Exford. “We are not only developing the minds of these students so they can become a doctor, lawyer or engineer, but, we are also helping them to become good people by providing them with an awesome environment to learn and grow. Darlington is a fun place, full of friendly faces. I can't wait to be one of the people welcoming new students and staff over the years to come.”
