Purple Tie Affair: What is it & Why Should I Attend?

The winter musical is one of the many events supported by the Fine Arts Booster Club each year.
Below is a blog written by Fine Arts Booster Club President Amie Sabourin about the upcoming Purple Tie Affair on Aug. 16. Check it out and make plans to attend this great event! Click here to purchase your tickets online.

The Purple Tie Affair is the premier fundraising event of the year for Darlington. It’s a fun night out with other parents; an evening to bid on awesome stuff (no, really – totally cool stuff); a chance to win $10,000 CASH or TUITION CREDIT up to $18,000 in the Reverse Raffle; and above all, a night to support our amazing school.

This event’s proceeds are split between the three parent organizations that support Darlington: TigerPRIDE, Athletic Boosters and Fine Arts Booster Club. We each use these funds to support the curriculum, teachers and student needs that the annual budget does not.

This past year, the Fine Arts Booster Club was able to send Upper School students to Orlando to compete in vocal and instrumental competitions, where they received high honors. We supported the Tectonics vocal harmony group’s special appearance and performance for our faculty and students. The Fine Arts Booster Club also uses funds from this event to host the annual Fall for the Arts, an arts festival that brings the whole school together. We purchase instruments, send teachers to conferences to further their training, and also help support the annual winter musical.

Here’s some great news about why we support the arts at Darlington:

1. Students who study art are 4 times more likely to be recognized for academic achievement and 3 times more likely to be awarded for school attendance.

2. Researchers find that sustained learning in music and theater correlates strongly with higher achievement in both math and reading.

3. New brain research shows that not only does music improve skills in math and reading, but it promotes creativity, social development, personality adjustment, and self-worth.

You may think that buying a Reverse Raffle ticket is sufficient. I want to encourage you to definitely buy a raffle ticket, but to also attend the event. We need your support, plain and simple – bid on the cool stuff, win a vacation or some great art! Your attendance makes a difference.

Plus, if I don’t know you already I would love to meet you. I will be there with my husband, Tom. We look forward to seeing you there! Oh, and don’t count on us bringing home a puppy this year. We have been there, done that!
Come out and support the arts at the Purple Tie Affair on Aug. 16!
