March 7, 2014 | 668 views

The 4 x 1600 meter relay composed of Stephanie Ward, Lauren Hooper, Mamie Johnson and Kinslee Clevenger broke the school record last Saturday at Milton High School. The girls ran 23:31, bettering the old record by 25 seconds.

The Darlington track and field teams had two medal winners, both in the 800 meters. Avery Cypress ran 2:00 to place 2nd in the boys' 800, and Stephanie Ward ran 2:26 to place 3rd in the girls' 800.

The track and field record boards have also been updated in the Huffman Center, so feel free to stop by the lobby by the weight room to view them. A PDF of the records is also attached at the top right of this page. The track and field staff is working hard to make sure all the records are accurate, and if you have any feedback on the accuracy of the records, please contact Head Track Coach Alan Parish.

There were two school records broken in 2013. Miles Bearden shattered the school record in the high jump, clearing 6 feet 10 inches as he won the state championship last Spring. He went on to win the high school national championship in the high jump, going over 7 feet. He is now a member of the Kansas State University track and field team.

The other record broken was the 4 x 400 relay composed of Alex Cox, Avery Cypress, Ian Winder and Chandler Duggan. They ran a 3:25.61. Alex Cox was 2013 state champion in the 400 meter dash, and is now running track for the University of New Hampshire.
