Senior Bailey Brock is one of only 37 incoming University of Alabama freshman selected to be part of The University Fellows Experience, housed in the Honors College. Selected from a pool of more than 620 candidates, this class of University Fellows represents 15 states, two countries and 35 high schools.
“The University Fellows Experience is a vibrant community of highly talented undergraduates,” said Stephanie Brewer, coordinator of The University Fellows Experience. “Following the classical purpose of education – the production of good citizens – this program strives to prepare the most able and dedicated students at the University of Alabama for leadership and service to their community, state, nation and world.”
According to the university’s website, this program seeks students with a true passion for service and leadership. Those selected will pursue knowledge and action in the classroom, on the campus, in the community, and in the world. Mentored by top professors, supported by their peers, and stimulated by world-class experts in many disciplines, University Fellows will enjoy the richest of college educations, will create enduring personal cultures of learning, and will embrace service to others as a guiding priority.
Brock has also been accepted into the University of Alabama’s STEM Path to the MBA program, through the Culverhouse College of Commerce and Business Administration. As a member of this elite program, she will begin taking a series of 1.5-credit-hour STEM Business Honors courses in the fall, and continue those courses through her undergraduate years. Each section of these courses is limited to 35 students, and most students manage to stay with the same group of students, and the same faculty member, each semester.
Additionally, the University of Alabama has awarded Brock a Presidential Scholarship valued at $91,800; a Julia & Arnold Teks Endowed Scholarship valued at $4,000; an Alumni Heritage Scholarship valued at $500; an Alumni Scholar Award valued at $4,000; and an Engineering Leadership Scholarship valued at $10,000.
Brock also earned a $1,000 scholarship award for being named the female 2013 John Pinson Jr. Outstanding Student Athlete and $100 for being a finalist in the Noon Optimist Club Student of the Year and winner in the All-Around category.
Brock has been a Darlington student since the first grade. An AP Scholar with Honor, she has taken 22 AP and Honors courses. She is a member of the Cum Laude Society, National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Honor Council, “Y” Cabinet and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She also serves as an Admission Tiger Expert, a spiritual life liaison and vice president of the House Senate.
A three-sport athlete, Brock is a four-year starter in volleyball, basketball and lacrosse. As a team captain, she has led the volleyball team to four state berths. Additionally, her contributions to the ladies’ basketball team, of which she is also a team captain, have placed the Lady Tigers in the Top 10 in state playoffs for the last three years. She has been named to numerous All-Area and All-Region teams during her athletic career.
At Darlington, Brock has received the Wellesley Book Award, the University of Georgia Merit Certificate, the Furman Scholar Award, the Wofford Scholar Award and the Centre College Fellow Award. She was also named Homecoming Queen this fall.
An active member of the Rome and Floyd County Community, she has participated in the Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce’s High School Leadership Rome program and volunteered her time with a variety of service organizations and events, including the Gary Tillman Memorial Race and the Empty Bowls Project. She is the daughter of Dawn and Harry Brock of Rome.
