Jim Linos, chairman of Darlington's world languages department, was selected to participate in an Immigration Round Table Discussion on April 2 at Georgia Highlands College. This event was hosted by the college's Political Science Club and its student newspaper, the Six Mile Post.

"It was an informal discussion between students and local community members about the issue of immigration and immigration legislation," explained Andrew West, editor of the Six Mile Post. "A total of more than 70 students, staff and community members were in attendance."

Panel members also included Pedro Marin, Georgia State Representative from Gwinnett County; Wendy Davis, a member of the Floyd County Democratic Party; Layla Shipman, chairman of the Floyd GOP; Blake Silvers, a member of the Floyd GOP; and Mark Greger, Spanish professor at Georgia Highland College.

"After the panel introduced themselves, I asked them a list of questions, which they were able to see before the event, and allowed them all a few minutes to answer," West said. "After this portion of the event was over, we opened the floor for questions from students, faculty and staff in the audience."

Linos has two decades of experience teaching world languages. He has taught Spanish at Darlington since 2000 and was promoted to chairman of the world languages department in 2007. He currently teaches Spanish 2 Honors, Spanish 3, Spanish 3 Honors, Spanish 4 Honors, AP Spanish and Advanced Spanish Honors. He holds a B.A. from Beloit College and an M.A.T.L. from the University of Southern Mississippi.
