Darlington School will host a Fencing Club Open House on Saturday, March 16, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Huffman Athletic Center. Open to the general public, the event will include an epee and foil fencing tournament, fencing demonstrations, refreshments, and an opportunity to meet the coaching staff.
"We have partnered with Lotus Fencing Academy in Atlanta to have Olympic-caliber instructors teach both epee and foil fencing at Darlington, and we hope the community will come to our Open House to learn more about our program," said Leanne Mann, director of summer programs. "We want to make fencing a year-round opportunity for students, faculty and staff. Participants age 8 and older are invited to join our club, which is also open to non-Darlington students and to adults."
The March 16 tournament is co-hosted by the Rome Fencing Club and Lotus Fencing Academy, led by fencing master Walid Mahran, a three-time Olympic qualifier and top-ten world ranked competitor. Mahran is an accomplished, internationally recognized coach with current and past students fencing at some of the nation’s most prestigious NCAA university fencing programs, including Harvard, Princeton, U.S. Air Force Academy and Ohio State.
Darlington School will also host Lotus Fencing's summer camp June 14-19.
