Darlington School's Concert Choir has been selected to perform a concert with the Rome Symphony Orchestra on Dec. 1 at 7:30 p.m. at Rome City Auditorium.

"This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to share their talents with the Rome and Floyd County community," said Kim Tunnell, director of fine arts at Darlington School. "They will learn so much as they work with the seasoned professionals of the Rome Symphony Orchestra. I hope that the Darlington Community will come out in numbers to support them."

Conducted by Richard Prior, Rome Sympony Orchestra selections will include Handel's "Overture to ‘Messiah,'" Anderson's "Christmas Festival" and Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker Suite No. 1." The Orchestra and Concert Choir will perform Handel's "For Unto Us a ChIld is Born," Praetorius' "Lo, How a Rose E'er Blooming," Prior's "Nativity Carol" and Anderson's "Sleigh Ride."

"We are delighted to collaborate with the Darlington Concert Choir this year and their director, Erin Westmaas," Prior said. "This is a choir of excellent young singers who are truly representative of the talent and artistry found at one of Rome's venerable institutions."

The Concert Choir will also sing two songs a cappella, Ord's "Adam Lay Ybounden" and Wood/Wilhousky's "Ding Dong/Carol of the Bells." The event will conclude with a carol sing-a-long, featuring popular holiday selections like "Joy to the World," "O Come All ye Faithful," "Silent Night," "Deck the Halls," "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing" and "We Wish you a Merry Christmas."

Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and $2 for students if they are purchased in advance. They are on sale at Kroger, World Hi-Fi, the Visitors Center, the Rome Symphony Orchestra Office, Merry Bee Gallery, Living & Giving, Bussey's in Cedartown and online at www.romesymphony.org.
