Lower and Middle School students represented Darlington well at two recent Independent School Spelling Bees.
Nine Darlington students competed in the Middle School Spelling Bee, hosted by Unity Christian School on April 10. Sixth-grader Pierce Monroe took third place, with Ishani Desai and Vraj Patel making it to the top five. Other Darlington students competing in the bee were Jacqueline Cline, Ian Kinney, Christina Kinder, Nicholas Jones, Will Crawford and Ethan Pender.
“We are very proud of everyone who participated,” said James Hutchins, director of Middle School. “As always, they did a wonderful job representing Darlington!”
Nine Darlington students competed in the Independent School Elementary Spelling Bee, hosted by Excel Christian Academy in Cartersville, Ga., on April 12. Fifth-grader Andy Brunt took third place out of the 40 students representing Berry Elementary, Unity Christian School, Excel Christian School, St. Mary’s Catholic School and Darlington. Other Darlington students competing in the bee were Cooper Cates, Brady Drummond, Frances Fields, Cole Hickman, Harsh Patel, Garrett Price, Tejas Reddy and Tate Roberts.
“The Elementary Spelling Bee was very exciting!” said Steve Bartholomew, director of Lower School. “It went 19 rounds and lasted three hours. Our students did very well with four of them still in at the 18th round!”
First and second place for the Middle School bee went to St. Mary’s student Gabriela Lumpkin and Unity Christian School student Hannah Hardwell, respectively. First and second place for the Elementary Bee went to Berry Elementary’s Sophia Wilson and Nora Bailey.
