Puckett named head softball coach

Darlington is pleased to announce that Andrea Puckett, Lower and Middle School French teacher, has been named head softball coach for the 2008-09 school year. She will replace James Hutchins, who will coach the Middle School team.

“Coach Puckett is fine addition to our coaching family at Darlington,” said Bob Stinchcomb, incoming athletic director. “She has done a great job assisting Coach Amobi with the varsity soccer team this year. We look forward to the fall and the further success of softball program.”

Puckett holds a bachelor’s degree in French from the State University of West Georgia and is currently seeking her master’s in French from Middle Tennessee State University. She has played softball since the age of 10, including three years as catcher and outfielder on her high school team. She earned a softball scholarship to Brewton-Parker College, where she played centerfield and catcher. Additionally, she has played for church and recreation leagues as an adult.

“I am ready to get out on the field,” Puckett said. “I am really looking forward to working with these girls and building a solid and positive team. I have been involved in many aspects of softball throughout my life as a parent, coach and player. I expect a great deal from my players, but at the same time I want us to have fun.”

Puckett will continue to serve as assistant coach for Darlington’s girls’ varsity soccer team next year.
