The Darlington Chapter of the
Cum Laude Society inducted 26 new members during an installation ceremony Wednesday, Jan. 10 in Morris Chapel.
According to Dean of College Guidance Sam Moss (’63), Chapter president, membership in the Cum Laude Society is the highest academic honor Darlington can bestow upon a group of students. "This year we are inducting 24 members of the senior class,” he said. “In addition, we are also inducting two juniors in recognition of their having achieved a remarkably high cumulative average since the ninth grade."
To be eligible for consideration, students must have an A (93) average for all four years, have taken at least eight Honors or AP courses over four years (or two each year), have earned a very high class rank and have demonstrated good character, honor and integrity in all aspects of their school life. Membership is limited to a maximum of 20 percent of each senior class.
Inductees included Andrew Bolano of Huntington, W.Va.; Norman Bonnyman of Rome; Marlowe Brant of Kingston, Ga.; Ben Butler of Rome; Cee-Cee Cambron of Rome; Tiffany Dempsey of Rome; Adam Diggs of Rome; Christie Doss of Kennesaw, Ga.; A.J. Evans of Rome; Caroline Frilot of New Orleans, La.; Jenna Gable of Lindale, Ga.; Mac Gilliland of Staunton, Va.; Alex Glass of Rome; Thanakorn Iamsasri of Bangkok, Thailand; John Kagley of Columbus, Ind.; Katherine Knight of Rome; Emily Morrow of Rome; Caitlin Murray of Rome; Morgan Myers of Rome; Sebastian Nagel of Zwickau, Germany; Jun-Woo Park of Seoul, Korea; Michael Schecter of Rome; Brittany Sloan of Cedartown, Ga.; Dottie Vincent of Rome; Fon Vuttipittayamongkol of Muang, Thailand; and Anna White of Cartersville, Ga.
“This society is a fellowship of scholars whose purpose is to recognize excellence in academic work,” said Moss. “As these students pursue their educations, it is our hope that they will accept the honor of membership in this society as a responsibility to make some contribution to man’s ongoing search for greater understanding of himself and of society.”
