Darlington's varsity volleyball team has a lot of goals this season. The Lady Tigers accomplished one of those Saturday when they won the 6-A/AA area title at home. Darlington (34-7) defeated Gordon Lee 25-22, 25-10, 23-25, 25-21 for the area crown.
Darlington head coach Jennifer Amobi was pleased with the way her team played and hopes more of their goals will be met in teh weeks to come. "I think we played well," Amobi said. "We exceded all of our goals and we didn't lose any matches. We're headed out to state and our goal is to win our first match and make it to the Elite Eight, the Sweet 16, or the Final Four - wherever it takes us from here."
Alex Dodd, Shanarra Goode and Nora Cook were all named to the All-Area First Team. In addition, Cook was named Player of the Year, and Amobi Coach of the Year. Emily Braden, Jaclyn Brass, Calley Craton, Katie Flint and Ali Harton earned honorable mentions.
"I think our seniors played extremely well," Amobi added. "Overall it was just a great team effort."
