Eight elected to Board, two alumni named life trustees

Eight new members have joined Darlington School’s Board of Trustees, chaired by Atlanta attorney John Irby (’81).

Trace Copeland of Rome is co-president of Tiger PRIDE. Jim Hendrix of Cashiers, N.C., educational consultant, was Darlington’s interim president in 2004-05. Gordon Lee Hight II (’62) of Rome, a retired pilot, is a visitor emeritus and has served previously as chairman of the Board. John Hunter (’55) of New York City, who retired as managing director of EXNET, is a former class agent.

John Izard (’77) of Atlanta, vice president of Cushman & Wakefield Global Real Estate Solutions, is a visitor emeritus and has served previously as a trustee. Linda Owens ('79) of Rome, vice president of sales and administration for Southeastern Mills Inc., has served previously as chairperson of Darlington’s Advancement Committee and Annual Fund Board member.

Roby Robinson (’58) of Alpharetta, Ga., who retired from the Robinson-Humphrey Co. and founded Phase Three Enterprises, is a visitor emeritus and has served previously as chairman of the Board and Annual Fund Board member. Lt. Col. John Ware of Rome, a founding member of 100 Black Men of Rome/Northwest Georgia Inc., retired from Temple-Inland as a training/human resource specialist.

Local physicians Ed Brewster (’61) and Banny Harbin (’55) were named life trustees. Retiring Board members include Tommy Betts, Robert Freeman (’63), Bob Glenn (’60), Clint Hubbard (’81), Richard Lewis (’69), Billy Mitchell (’58) and Delos Yancey.
