Darlington golfer Tim Kim has been a successful young athlete on the golf courses of Floyd County and Northwest Georgia. So when it came time to decide on where to play in college, his decision didn’t take him too far.

Kim, a senior on the Tigers’ varsity golf team, signed with Berry College on Thursday. “I think part of him wanted to go off to college,” Darlington coach Raymond Murray said. “But I think he’s comfortable where he is.”

Kim led his team to the Region 7-AA championship last season and was the individual Class AA state champion in 2006.

When he was 12-years-old, he competed in the U.S. Kids Golf World Championship and finished sixth. Living near Stonebridge Golf Course, Kim has been around the local golf scene for a number of years and caught the eye of Berry golf coach Brian Farrer.

“I’ve known Tim for quite a while and we’ve had our fingers crossed that we could get him out at Berry,” Farrer said. “He’s always been a good golfer and it seems like he has taken his game to the next level.”

Stonebridge serves as the Vikings’ home course and is just down the road from Berry’s campus.

“I think it’s going to be an easy transition for him,” Farrer said. “Tim displays maturity on the course and is very level-headed, something that is hard to find in a high school senior.”

Kim played a full American Junior tournament schedule in 2007 and has won at the local, in-state and southeastern level.

Darlington resumes its season on March 25 in the North Georgia Invitational at Barnsley Gardens in Bartow County.
